Simon Joseph Pereira (Feb 1924 - Dec 1999)


Simon Joseph Pereira: 

Tribute 1924 to 1999 

Born on a leap day on Feb 29th 1924 to Simon Pereira & Margaret Pereira in Trivandrum, Kerala Joseph Pereira was the eldest of 5 sons.

His father was a school master who was very much involved in social work. He studied in an English medium school.

He joined the British army when he was around 17. After the war he studied accounting & worked in Karachi, for an oil company. He married Ursula Pereira on 15th June 1951. His maternal uncle lived in Singapore & so he went there to explore job opportunities. He found that there were better sports facilities in Brunei & so joined Brunei Shell Petroleum in Seria in the accounts department.

His wife & first-born Violet Florencia joined him in 1953. He had 4 more children Cecilia, Peter, Lucina & Christina. He retired in 1979 from Shell after working there for 27 years. The family  moved to Mumbai, India. He had 8 grandchildren Louis, Dinah Ann, Shawn, Nikhil, Joshua, David, Rachel and Daniel.

He enjoyed playing tennis and taking his grandkids swimming. He died on 3rd December 1999 .
